Fresh allegations have emerged over the death of businessman and politician Mr. Bamidele Akingboye, as his widow, Mrs. Christiana Akingboye, accused members of the family of sustained harassment, unresolved legal crises and an aggressive scramble for assets which she said placed her late husband under “immense psychological pressure” before his death.
Mrs. Akingboye said her husband’s final years were dominated by serious health challenges and family disputes that took a heavy toll on his mental and emotional wellbeing.
According to her, the late businessman had battled persistent medical issues since 2019, requiring treatment in Nigeria and Dubai, but his fragile condition was compounded by crises involving his sons, which he personally tried to manage.
She alleged that the conduct of two of her husband’s sons, Samuel and Francis Akingboye, became a major source of distress.
The widow claimed that Mr. Samuel Akingboye is linked to a fraud-related matter reportedly under investigation at the Zone 2 Police Command, adding that her husband was deeply involved in efforts to resolve the issue to prevent his son’s incarceration.
She said the emotional strain of engaging law enforcement authorities and managing the implications of the case weighed heavily on him, noting that documentary evidence exists to support the claims.
Mrs. Akingboye further alleged that another son, Mr. Francis Akingboye, who resides in Canada, is connected to a separate fraud allegation involving the alleged defrauding of an elderly American pensioner, Mr. Marcus Heckett, of about $27,000.
She described Heckett as a long-standing family acquaintance and said the reputational damage and emotional burden arising from the allegation further destabilised her husband.
“These unresolved matters placed him under immense and sustained psychological pressure,” she said, insisting that the cumulative stress contributed significantly to his mental decline before his death.
The widow also raised concern over what she described as hasty and unfounded accusations against her and her children within hours of her husband’s passing.
She questioned how such conclusions could be drawn without medical, forensic or investigative findings, describing the allegations as reckless and damaging.
She alleged that misleading images were circulated publicly to support a false narrative, while security operatives were reportedly brought to her residence the following day.
According to her, authentic hospital records, medical reports and dated photographs exist to confirm her husband’s medical condition prior to his death and contradict claims that he was in good health.
Mrs. Akingboye disclosed that CCTV footage exists capturing the incident in which her husband sustained the fatal fall. She said the footage is with the police, although she was informed that it was “not clear,” adding that the material, alongside medical records, may be released through appropriate legal and journalistic channels.
Beyond the circumstances of the death, she accused family members of moving swiftly to take control of her husband’s assets. She alleged that properties jointly developed by her and her husband in Akure and Okitipupa were locked without her consent, while attempts were made to take over his dredging business without lawful authority from his estate.
She also dismissed online claims that vehicles were removed or sold, clarifying that her husband owned only two vehicles, both of which remain at the family residence.
Describing herself and her children as victims of intimidation and dispossession, Mrs. Akingboye called for a thorough, impartial and evidence-based investigation.
“I am not seeking to prejudice any investigation,” she said. “All I want is for the truth to emerge through due process, without intimidation, distortion or exploitation.”
